The Chicago Cubs have taken shortstop Javier Baez out of the starting lineup Monday as he is dealing with a right thumb injury, an injury that he is receiving treatment on. Baez was forced out of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco Giants in the seventh inning after appearing to injury his thumb during his at-bat.

As noted by Russell Dorsey, the injury appears to be minor as the Cubs remain hopeful that their star player will be available. Sergio Alcantara is starting at short with Baez out. The switch-hitting Alcantara has done damage against lefties in limited at-bats this season, with an on-base plus slugging percentage of 1.
