deGrom was scratched from his last scheduled start due to side tightness, but he took the mound to start Sunday’s game vs. the Diamondbacks. That said, he was clearly battling discomfort during the early innings, and he ultimately called for the trainers after his second warmup pitch in the top of the sixth inning. deGrom was his usual dominant self before exiting, racking up six strikeouts while allowing just one hit and one earned run.
Hopefully, the injury isn’t serious, but it’s worth monitoring any time a pitcher of deGrom’s caliber is pulled from a start early.
