Former Stanford Star Candice Wiggins: I Was Bullied In The WNBA For Being Straight

Candice Wiggins, who played at Stanford and had a successful career in the WNBA, says she was bullied in that league for being straight, and that 98 percent of players in that league are gay.

“Me being heterosexual and straight, and being vocal in my identity as a straight woman was huge,” Wiggins said. “I would say 98 percent of the women in the WNBA are gay women. It was a conformist type of place. There was a whole different set of rules (the other players) could apply.”

Wiggins, who played eight seasons in the league, abruptly retired from the New York Liberty in 2015.
