Cincinnati Bengals Release DT Geno Atkins

It’s the dawn of a new era in Cincinnati as the Bengals have released Geno Atkins after 11 seasons with the team. The Bengals certainly got their money’s worth with Atkins after selecting him in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Atkins was an eight-time Pro-Bowler, three-time First-Team All-Pro, and was named to the 2010 All-Decade Team. Last season, he suffered a shoulder injury during training camp, which was limited to eight games. The Bengals then placed him on injured reserve following surgery to repair the injury.

By releasing Atkins, Cincinnati will save $9.5 million against the salary cap.
