First ground rule here: there will be no discussion of the 2005 version of The Bad News Bears, that unfortunate remake starring Billy Bob Thornton and a bunch of kids straight out of Hollywood casting. That film was blasphemy of the highest order, on par with both the Adam Sandler version of The Longest Yard, and a foul tip to the groin. You don’t remake Casablanca or The 400 Blows, and you don’t screw with The Bad News Bears.
