Andy Reid: A look back to his absurd size as a 13 year old

Newly minted Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was actually bigger than most NBA centers when he participated in a punt/pass/kick contest as a 13 year old in 1971. Reid, who was fired by the Eagles on Monday, was at least 3X the size of his nearest competitor in the contest. The size of Reid compared to his peers is almost laughable, and begs the question how he wasn't more successful as a football player.

Reid attended BYU in the late 70's/early 80's and saw no interest from NFL teams upon graduation. Given this grainy 42 year old video footage makes him seem like he is 7'2", 350 lbs, its very surprising that Reid didn't turn out to be a perennial Pro Bowl NFL lineman.

The Chiefs are set to announce Reid as their new coach, possibly as soon as today. Reid had been thought to be headed to Arizona, some believing it was a done deal, but is landing in KC after Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt personally recruited the veteran coach over the past 3 days. The Chiefs own the 1st pick in the NFL draft and will likely take a QB.
