A Southwest plane that took off from Salt Lake City on Monday morning made an emergency landing at the airport after one of its engines caught fire in midair.
Pilots for flight 604, which departed at 6:45 a.m. and was destined for Los Angeles International Airport, decided to return to the Salt Lake City airport after “receiving an indication of a performance issue with one of the aircraft engines,” Southwest Airlines said in an emailed statement.
The pilots followed protocol, Southwest said, completed an “uneventful” landing. No one was injured, and customers were to be placed in a new aircraft to continue the flight to Los Angeles.
