Salt Lake City officer shoots and injures 20-year-old driving stolen car

An officer shot and injured a 20-year-old man in Salt Lake City on Wednesday while attempting to pull him over for driving a stolen car, police said.

The shooting happened about 3:40 p.m. when police got a call about the car and found a man driving it on 1460 West near North Temple, said Sgt. Keith Horrocks of the Salt Lake City Police Department.

After the officer turned on his lights, the car stopped. The officer walked up to the driver’s side window and fired “at least one round,” Horrocks said.

Horrocks said he doesn’t know if the man inside the car threatened the officer or had a weapon.
