Christian Techera scored two second-half goals and Jordan Harvey added a pair of assists as the Western Conference-leading Whitecaps (13-8-3) extended their league unbeaten streak to four games. But Techera's goals proved to be moot after Octavio Rivero converted a penalty kick in the sixth minute and Pa-Modou Kah scored in the 40th to give the Caps a 2-0 lead.
"It was a tough night for everyone," said RSL coach Jeff Cassar. "We had tough circumstances against a first-place team. I thought there was a period of time in the first half that we settled in a little bit and played some good soccer.
