With the fifth pick in the 2016 MLS Draft, Real Salt Lake selected Omar Holness, a Generation Adidas midfielder from North Carolina.
Holness, 21, was born in Kingston, Jamaica, is a midfielder that some have said is well-suited to a two-way midfield role in RSL's three-man midfield.
Needing backup in the midfield with Luis Gil and Luis Silva departed from the club this offseason, Holness is a reasonable pick.
Generation Adidas players don't count against teams' salary caps — a mechanism MLS uses to incentivize teams giving talented young players additional development time and patience, as well as to bring young players who may have demanded higher contracts.
