On Sunday another chapter will be written into the story of a heated rivalry between Real Salt Lake and Sporting Kansas City in the second leg of the Western Conference Semifinal as the sides battle for a spot in the Western Conference Final.
An underrated rivalry sprouted from a preseason match in March 2011, with a few choice words and a stud’s up challenge from SKC midfielder Roger Espinoza on RSL’s Javier Morales, the benches cleared and red cards ensued before the match ended prematurely and a rivalry was born.
The rivalry came to a head as the nation watched on December 7, 2013 in the most notable match in series history, a match that truly defined what the bout meant for both sides.
