Mark Briggs, the coach who brought the Real Monarchs their first-ever trophy, can add another award to his list accomplishments this season: Coach of the Year.

The USL revealed Monday that Briggs was voted Coach of the Year by team management and a league-wide media panel.

“The award symbolizes the collective efforts of the entire organization this season,” Briggs said in a team release. “We accomplished a lot this season, and it hasn’t quite sunk in just how much we accomplished this year.”

With a 20-5-7 regular season record, the Monarchs claimed the USL Shield and the team’s first-ever USL playoff berth.
