Preston Summerhays is the State Am’s youngest golf champion at 15

Farmington • Preston Summerhays became the youngest winner in the 120-year history of the State Amateur, beating University of Utah golfer Kyler Dunkle 3 and 2 in the 36-hole final match Saturday at Oakridge Country Club.

Summerhays, 15, will be a high school sophomore in Arizona. He’s a Farmington native and his family spends the summers in Davis County.

George Von Elm, who won the 1917 State Am at age 16, was the previous youngest champion. Summerhays’ uncle, Daniel, also was 16 when he took the 2000 title at Oakridge.
