Layton officials, Utah National Guard investigating fumes affecting home owners

At least six homeowners in Layton are getting a whiff of strong petroleum odor believed to be the remains of an old fuel spill.

FOX 13 reports the smell is the area of Gentile Street to 500 South and Angel Street to Denver & Rio Grande Western Rail Trail. Soldiers from the Utah National Guard’s civil support team were in Layton on Wednesday, assisting investigators with their mobile lab.

A similar episode happened in the spring, FOX 13 reported. Layton officials believed the smells were from an old fuel spill that resurfaced during the installation of a new sewer line.
