Latter-day Saint leaders to announce plans to renovate iconic Salt Lake Temple

Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are scheduled to announce plans to renovate the faith’s iconic Salt Lake Temple — along with its adjoining plaza and Temple Square — on Friday at about 10 a.m.

President Russell M. Nelson said in the latest General Conference that the church’s pioneer-era temples in Salt Lake City, Manti, Logan and St. George would be undergoing a “renewal and refreshing and, for some, a major restoration.”

The historic 126-year-old Salt Lake Temple, 40 years in the making and dedicated in 1893, is the global faith’s most recognized structure.
