The Utah Department of Corrections announced an inmate died Saturday evening at the Oquirrh Facility at the state prison.

According to a news release, the inmate was found unresponsive in his cell and was later declared dead. Authorities are investigating the death as a possible homicide.

While the family of the inmate have been notified, the department declined to release his name at this time due to the investigation.

The Oquirrh Facility is comprised of five buildings at the southernmost end of the Utah State Prison complex in Draper and houses male inmates in medium security.
