Hate crime trial of man accused of assaulting black neighbor with stun device to begin in Utah

Before he signed a lease for a Draper apartment, Mark Olic Porter allegedly asked a white leasing agent if any black people lived in the complex.

When the unit above his became vacant, he asked maintenance workers, all of them white, not to move any “n------” into the apartment, federal prosecutors say. And a neighbor at the Adagio complex says Porter began to rant to her on Nov. 3, 2016, saying he wanted to “exterminate” all blacks.

As he was making those comments that day, Porter also allegedly began shouting at a 7-year-old African-American boy riding his scooter around the sidewalk and told the child, “Get out of here, n-----.
