David Romrell, South Salt Lake police officer killed by car, to be remembered in funeral service at Maverik Center

The casket carrying the body of David Romrell, the South Salt Lake police officer killed in the line of duty on Nov. 24, has been moved to the Maverik Center in West Valley City, in preparation for his funeral Wednesday.

Romrell died Nov. 24 when he was struck by a car in a clash with two burglary suspects near 3300 South and 300 West.

The driver of the Chevrolet Impala, Felix Calata, 31, was killed that night when police opened fire on the car. Jeffrey Black, who was in the passenger seat of the Impala, is being held in the Salt Lake County jail, facing possible charges including aggravated murder.
