Corsie and Scotland Fall 2-1 to England in First World Cup Match

Rachel Corsie and the Scotland National Team got their start in the FIFA Women’s World Cup on Sunday, facing of against fellow United Kingdom foes, England. In their first-ever World Cup match, Corsie captained Scotland at center back to a 2-1 loss to the third-ranked team in the world.

Scotland got off to an unfortunate start after England’s Fran Kirby sent a cross in, meeting the arm of left back Nicola Docherty. Using Video Assistant Referee [VAR] England was awarded a penalty under the new rule of “zero tolerance” for handballs inside the box. Nikita Parris stepped up to the spot for England and launched the ball into the top corner to earn the lead.
