Boy Scouts leader who drowned saving boy was 22-year-old Orem man

Salem police have identified the Boy Scouts leader who drowned Wednesday after saving the life of one of his Scouts as Wesley Robert Kratzer, 22, of Orem.

His body was taken to State Medical Examiner’s Officer for an autopsy, according to Salem Police.

Kratzer was with a group of 10- and 11-year-olds as they practiced swimming at Salem Pond when one of the boys began to struggle. Kratzer jumped in and pushed the boy to safety, but went under the water himself and never resurfaced.
