Baby cough syrup sold at Dollar General recalled because of possible bacteria risk

DG Health Naturals baby cough syrup and mucus relief — sold nationally at Dollar General stores — has been recalled because of potential bacterial contamination.

Kingston Pharma has put out the alert on 2-fluid ounce bottles of the cough syrup because they may be contaminated with Bacillus cereus/ Bacillus circulans. According to the Food and Drug Administration, it can cause vomiting and/or diarrhea.

“Most often, illnesses are mild and self-limiting,” according to an FDA release, “although more serious and even lethal cases have occurred.”

Infants, young children, and people with weakened immune systems are most at risk.
