After teachers silently protested this week, Salt Lake City School District announces it is at ‘an impasse’ over salaries

Coming two days after nearly 200 educators held a silent protest at a school board meeting and threatened to strike, the Salt Lake City teachers association has rejected a compromise to raise salaries and the district has announced an impasse.

District Superintendent Lexi Cunningham said in a statement Thursday that there are restrictions in “what we can do due to limited funding.”

She added: “We acknowledge the crucial role our educators make every day in the lives of our students, in our district, and in our schools. Throughout the salary negotiation process, we’ve done our best to show our teachers that we value their contributions and, as a district, we are always looking for ways to better reflect that in our salary negotiations.
