A 4-month-old baby is in critical condition and the 16-year-old boy who was babysitting her is in custody, according to West Valley City police.
Officers responded to a report of child who was not breathing at the Shadowbrook Apartments at 3852 S. 1845 West about 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. When they arrived, they performed CPR. The baby was first taken to Jordan Valley Medical Center, then flown by helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital, where she remained in critical condition on Wednesday morning.
Police provided few other details, but confirmed that the baby suffered head injuries and the teen babysitter was booked into juvenile detention for investigation of child abuse.
