15 officers on leave as Utah police piece together a chase and shootout

Fifteen peace officers from three police forces were on leave Tuesday as investigators continued examining a crime spree and shootout in Salt Lake City a day earlier.

The suspect, Harold Vincent Robinson, 37, of West Valley City, died in the shootout. The leave is standard procedure after a police shooting. Ten Salt Lake City police officers are on leave; three from the Utah Highway Patrol and two from the Unified Police Department.

Salt Lake City police identified the suspect Monday afternoon as Robinson. The Salt Lake County sheriff and Salt Lake City’s police chief, in a joint press conference Monday, said there was no indication anyone else participated in what they described as a crime spree that stretched across much the county.
