PC hockey edges Vermont; Brown ties Harvard

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Providence College jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first period and held on for a 3-2 victory over Vermont in the second half of a home-and-home Hockey East series on Saturday night.

The 14th-ranked Friars, who settled for a 1-1 tie with Vermont on Friday night, improve to 15-9-6 overall and 9-8-3 in the league. The Catamounts drop to 3-21-5 and 0-16-3.

Providence opened the scoring on its second power- play chance of the game at 9:12 of the first period. While on the kill, Vermont was penalized for the third time and Patrick Moynihan found the back of the net on the delayed call.
