Hoping for a fresh start after a troubling non-conference performance, the Providence College Friars jumped all over the Georgetown Hoyas and then survived a shaky second half to win the Big East opener for both clubs, 76-60.
The New Year’s Eve crowd at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center was treated to one of PC’s best offensive halves in years as the home team raced to a 54-23 lead at the break. The second half unfolded very differently as a 33-point lead melted to 14 but the Friars had more than enough of a cushion to hold on.
