PROVIDENCE – It wasn’t easy and it certainly wasn’t pretty but the Providence Friars found a way to extend their promising start in the Big East Wednesday night at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

The Friars fought their way past St. John’s, 63-58, to improve to 11-7 overall and 4-1 in the conference. Alpha Diallo was the only double figure scorer with 19 points.

St. John’s (12-6, 1-4) put four players in double figures but could not make the key plays in the final minute.

St. John’s is the scrappiest team in the Big East and specializes in scrambling the game.
