PC 3, UMass 2: Friars edge second-ranked Minutemen

PROVIDENCE — If Providence College and second-ranked Massachusetts played a seven-game playoff series, there’s a decent chance it wouldn’t be settled until overtime of the final game.

On Saturday night, for the third time this season, the Friars and Minutemen slugged it out for 60 scintillating minutes.

After losing a pair of one-goal games to UMass in November, PC this time ground out a 3-2 win in front of a sellout crowd at Schneider Arena. Scott Conway put the Friars over the top by cashing in a rebound with 2:56 left.

“Typical Hockey East game, comes down to a bounce here, a bounce there,″ said PC coach Nate Leaman.
