PC 3, AIC 1: Friars capture season-opener

PROVIDENCE — Providence College scored three goals in the final 3:06 of the first period as the Friars won their season-opener with a 3-1 victory over AIC on Saturday night before 1,875 fans at Schneider Arena.

PC goalie Hayden Hawkey made 18 saves to pick up the win.

The Friars scored their first goal of the season with 3:06 remaining in the first period as Scott Conway netted a power-play goal. Conway redirected a shot from Jack Dugan past AIC goalie Stefano Durante (22 saves) for a 1-0 lead. It was Dugan’s first collegiate point.

With 1:07 left in the period PC was called for hooking but it was the Friars who took advantage, getting a short-handed goal from Greg Printz 13 seconds into the AIC power-play.
