PROVIDENCE – His name was Mike Schreiber.
“He was slick. A little kid from Alberta. Quick feet and a good stick,″ recalled Nate Leaman, who recruited Schrieber, a defenseman, to Union College out of Fort McMurray of the AJHL a dozen years ago.
During Schrieber’s four years at Union, the Dutchmen went from 14 wins to 21 wins and along the way Leaman took a hard look at what kind of defensemen he was recruiting.
“That’s when I really started to think about it. At Union, you were either looking at the 5-10 mobile guy or a 6-4 slug.
