Friars set to welcome 2 Chainz for Late Night Madness

PROVIDENCE – Forget Dick Vitale, sorry Bill Raftery.

The college basketball season has arrived with teams around the country opening practice over the last two weeks. Now it’s time to christen a new season and gone are the days of a staid dinner for boosters and parents. Today’s Midnight Madness events are all about the show.

Providence College flipped the switch from a basketball-centric opening night to a student-friendly event several years ago. Saturday night the rapper 2 Chainz will be the featured attraction at its Late Night Madness party at a sold out Alumni Hall. The Friar men’s and women’s hoopsters will fire up a few 3-pointers and toss down some splashy dunks before the main event.
