Friars Journal: PC couldn’t capitalize on early breaks

BUFFALO — When Duluth’s Cole Koepke shoveled the puck past Providence goalie Hayden Hawkey from the front of the net with 3:20 left in the first period, it looked like the Bulldogs had taken a 1-0 lead.

Not so fast.

After a review of six minutes by referees Chris Ciamaga and Mike Schubert of Atlantic Hockey, the goal was washed out.

It was a major break for the Friars, whether they deserved it or not.

The Bulldogs’ Billy Exell made contact with Hawkey, but it appeared that the PC goalie had a chance to make the stop.
