‘Emmitt almost died.’ PC Friars thankful, inspired by Holt’s return to court

PROVIDENCE — The low point for Emmitt Holt, the scariest moment in a months-long horror show, probably came one morning at Massachusetts General Hospital.

It was October 2017. The then 21-year-old Holt had already been through one operation at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence to alleviate pain from a sudden, unexplained abdominal blockage that had sent his blood pressure sky high and spiked a major fever. At their wits end, doctors sent him to Boston for more help.

Early one morning, Holt was still struggling. His body wasn’t responding to treatment and the muscle of the chiseled Providence College basketball player was melting off his frame.
