Creighton 76, PC 70 OT: In the end, 2nd-half comeback isn’t enough

OMAHA, Neb. — Providence spent a lot of time and energy catching up to Creighton on Wednesday night, only to see Bluejays sophomore Ty-Shon Alexander undo it all in 16 seconds.

Alexander followed a 3-pointer with a steal and dunk in overtime, breaking a 63-63 tie and leading the Bluejays to a 76-70 win over the Friars at the CHI Health Center.

It spoiled Providence’s comeback from 16 points down in the final 11 minutes, a rally that was capped by Isaiah Jackson forcing overtime at 59-59 on a three-point play with 14 seconds left.

Providence (16-14, 6-11) even led twice in overtime after baskets by Kalif Young and Jackson, but Martin Krampelj made two free throws before Alexander swung the Big East game to the Bluejays with his 3-pointer with 2:16 left and dunk at the two-minute mark.
