Bill Reynolds: Remembering how it was, and how it is

PROVIDENCE — The Kid grew up with Providence College basketball, beginning in the late 1950s, when their games began to be broadcast on the radio, Chris Clark’s voice coming through the night-time static.

The original plan back then had been to have URI and Brown games on, too, a sort of the-best-game-of-the-night approach.

But it became apparent quickly that the Friars had something special going on, and just about the time everyone was starting to figure out who Lenny Wilkens and Johnny Egan were, the Friars were on all the time. So much for URI and Brown.
