On the final day of the 1996-97 campaign, little over 3,000 Albion fans witnessed the Seagulls scrape a 1-1 draw at Hereford United to retain their league status in one of the most important days in the club's history. On Monday, 30,000 were on hand at the state-of-the-art American Express Community Stadium to watch Chris Hughton steer them into the Premier League.
