West Ham asked to pay for extra police after London Stadium troubles

West Ham are going to be asked to contribute to the cost of policing the London Stadium on match days.

This follows the need for a dramatically increased police presence at the Stratford ground following the trouble at West Ham's matches there this season.

The bargain-of-the-century tenancy agreement that West Ham negotiated with their London Legacy Development Corporation landlords for the 25-days-a-year use states that all policing and stewarding costs are met by the LLDC. West Ham pay only a peppercorn rent of £2.5million a season.

However, such have been the outbreaks of hooliganism at the start of West Ham's first season at the London Stadium that the LLDC feel they have a strong case for West Ham to pay for some of the unanticipated extra police costs.
