Vindicated! Everton successfully appeal Premier League's 10-point deduction after independent commission made 'legal errors' with initial penalty… but Toffees are braced to lose more points

Everton feel ‘vindicated’ after their 10-point deduction for breaching Premier League financial rules was reduced to six by an appeals board on Monday — with the Toffees climbing two places to 15th in the table.

The Merseyside club were hit by the biggest sporting sanction in top-flight history in November for overspending permitted losses of £105million in a three-year period by £19.5m. The club are still braced for another judgment day for a fresh charge that concerns a new accounting period.

Written reasons for handing Everton four points back state the appeals board rejected seven of the club’s arguments, but decided that the original independent commission had made two ‘legal errors’.
