Tim Krul is undergoing a medical at Watford and that will dictate the club's decision at midday whether to sign him on loan from Newcastle.
Watford No 1 Costel Pantilimon is out for four weeks after picking up an ankle injury in the weekend FA Cup defeat to Millwall.
The Holland international has been on loan at Ajax but has not figured. Watford want cover while Pantilimon is injured.
Krul has been at Newcastle since 2006 and had various loan spells during his time with the North East club.
