Most strikers who finish as their team's top scorer one season would rightly expect to begin the following campaign as the first-choice. But then nothing is ever ordinary at Chelsea.
Tammy Abraham's prospects certainly looked bleak when he started Chelsea's first two Premier League games on the bench.
It seemed the new season was much like the old one for the 23-year-old striker, who started 2019-20 in blistering scoring form before fading and ultimately losing his place to Oliver Giroud post-restart in June.
Now the arrival of £48million striker Timo Werner looked almost certain to relegate him to another season of watching the action longingly from the Chelsea bench.
