Steve Bruce admits 'gap is growing' between top and bottom of Premier League after Newcastle are beaten comfortably by Manchester City in FA Cup quarterfinals

Steve Bruce admitted the chasm between the top and bottom of the Premier League has never been greater after Newcastle’s elimination from the FA Cup.

Newcastle were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City in last night’s quarter-final at St James’ Park, with Pep Guardiola’s side registering 76 per cent possession on a damp occasion.

City go on to face Arsenal in next month’s semi-final at Wembley and Bruce believes it is becoming increasingly difficult for any team outside the elite to challenge.

‘There’s becoming a bigger gap between the top and bottom of the Premier League and that gap is growing,’ the Newcastle manager said.
