Significant number of Premier League players and coaches believe the season should be halted as playing on is too risky due to Covid concerns and are on a collision course with their own club executives after it was agreed festive fixtures would go ahead

Premier League players and coaches are on a collision course with their own club executives over the drive to continue playing amid the Covid outbreak that has wrecked the fixture schedule.

As revealed by MailOnline on Monday, it was decided during a meeting of all 20 clubs and top-flight officials that the festive fixture calendar will go ahead as planned despite calls for a ‘circuit-breaker’ to ease the spike in positive Covid tests that has so far caused the postponement of nine matches.

Much like the first Premier League shut-down in 2020, any decision to call a temporary hiatus to the calendar would result in significant off-the-field ramifications for clubs, particularly financial.
