Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone shine as Punjab Kings triumph in Mullanpur ground debut, with record signing taking man-of-the-match

England duo Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone combined in a game-defining stand as Punjab Kings christened their new Mullanpur ground with a win.

Curran, the most expensive cricketer in Indian Premier League auction history when Punjab purchased him for £1.85million 15 months ago, took the man-of-the-match honours with 63 off 47 balls - the only half-century of the contest against Delhi Capitals.

The bulk of the Surrey all-rounder’s runs were scored during a stand of 67 in seven overs with Livingstone, whose third six sealed a successful four-wicket chase of 175.

Fortune swung the home team’s way as first Capitals bowler Ishant Sharma limped from the field after bowling just two of his allotted four overs and then David Warner dropped a straightforward chance in the deep when eight were required from seven balls.
