Premier League to probe racial bias in television commentary after alarming results from research showed stars with darker skin tones receive 63% of criticism about intelligence, quality and versatility

The Premier League have vowed to review the findings of a study which highlighted the racial bias in football commentary.

Danish research company RunRepeat conducted a six-month study in association with the PFA which confirmed how 'deep-rooted racial stereotypes' are furthered in commentary.

Findings revealed there was a clear difference between the way players are spoken about in commentary with lighter skinned players receiving the majority of praise for attributes like intelligence, quality, work rate and intelligence.

Players with darker skin tones received more criticism in those categories and also saw physical qualities like power and speed amplified.
