Mark Clattenburg believes that the introduction of VAR has left the new generation of Premier League referees reluctant to make calls.

The former professional referee said he felt there was a 'fear' among current officials when he's watching games due to a lack of decision-making.

While an older generation of officials were making split-second decisions that would have been backed up by technology if it was available, he calls on the current crop of referees to be braver, as otherwise it ends up doubling down on an issue.

When Clattenburg became a professional referee in China, he noticed that his style of managing the game had changed significantly from the Premier League days because of the new technology, and that it made him question his role there.
