A Premier League footballer who has been bailed after he was arrested for alleged rape will be eligible to play at the World Cup in Qatar.

The player in question has not been charged and while he cannot be named for legal reasons, the Athletic claim that he is expected to make his country's final squad list, with teams having to name their 26-man squads by November 14.

The unnamed player was arrested back in July on suspicion of rape.

A follow-up arrest came amid allegations of two more attacks on different women but no charges have been brought.
