Newcastle 1-3 Liverpool: Reds recover from early scare to end the season with the second-highest Premier League points total ever

Liverpool reached 99 points, the second-highest total ever in the Premier League, with a comeback victory over Newcastle United on the final day of the season.

Liverpool were caught napping inside 30 seconds, as former Red Jonjo Shelvey lifted a ball through to Dwight Gayle who managed to put it past Alisson Becker one on one.

The visitors struggled to break Newcastle down for most of the first half until Virgil van Dijk was able to level the scores after 38 minutes. Divock Origi then put the visitors ahead in the second half, firing home from 20 yards out, and Sadio Mane completed the win for Liverpool not long before full-time.
