New US owners of London Irish 'enquire about long-term groundshare with AFC Wimbledon... with fund ready to invest £7m in upgrading Plough Lane if deal is sealed'

A major American fund close to taking over London Irish have held talks about a groundshare deal with AFC Wimbledon.

London Irish currently share the Gtech Community Stadium with Brentford, but there are fears the rugby club could be served notice when the deal is reviewed in three years.

Concerns about rugby’s impact on the pitch have put pressure on the agreement, which was sealed in 2018 when Brentford were still in the Championship.

But they are now in the Premier League and no longer dependent on the rent.

Irish owner Mick Crossan is close to a deal with a consortium fronted by Redstrike, whose MD is ex-Premiership Rugby chief Howard Thomas.
