A surprising email flew into the inbox of a Manchester United employee not long ago. It arrived from the Algarve and sent by their old, much-maligned manager, Louis van Gaal.
Asking how the club 'was getting on' without him, Van Gaal u2012 sacked last May u2012 wanted to check in to see to what extent his former team were changing and what the atmosphere was like around Carrington.
Fairly nosey, you'd say. But also fair to assume Marcus Rashford's name was mentioned - the young man who flew onto the scene under his guidance.

Rashford is heralded as a Van Gaal find and might well represent his only true legacy.
