Mahrez scores first Champions League goal for Manchester City in rout of Shakhtar Donetsk

Riyad Mahrez waited until his fourth Champions League game for Manchester City before registering his first goal for the Citizen.

The Algeria international contributed two assists and his side’s fifth goal as Pep Guardiola’s men demolished the Ukrainian side that came into the game with the aspiration of avenging their 3-0 defeat in the first leg.

Mahrez fired past Andriy Pyatov from an acute angle in the 84th minute after controlling Ilkay Guendogan’s aerial ball.

The strike added more glooms to Shakhtar after goals from David Silva, Raheem Sterling and a brace from Gabriel Jesus had given the hosts a four-goal lead.
